Consultations with Jane Mattes, LCSW (Phone or video call)
Whether you’re just starting to consider becoming a single mother by choice (SMC), grappling with the concerns that arise while trying to conceive or adopt, or in the midst of the parenting years, having a consultation with an expert on donor-conceived families can be a great help in sorting out the complex issues that can arise while you’re on your journey. Some popular topics are “I’m not sure whether or not to be an SMC” and “How do I explain to my child why there’s no Dad in our family”, among many others.
Jane Mattes, L.C.S.W., a NYC psychotherapist and single mother by choice, founded Single Mothers by Choice (SMC) in 1981, shortly after having her son, Eric. Jane was a pioneer in the area of single motherhood by choice, and over the years she has counseled thousands of women who are considering, or have chosen, single motherhood. Jane also consults with educators, psychotherapists, and other professionals who work with SMCs and their children.
In addition to overseeing the growth of SMC and maintaining a private practice in psychotherapy, Jane has written the book, Single Mothers by Choice: A Guidebook for Single Women Who Are Considering, or Have Chosen Motherhood, and has co-authored several research papers on donor-conceived families.
